The Impact of Locally Produced Generic Drugon Social Security Fund Expenditures: A Case Study of CNAS– TLEMCEN

Abstract

This thesis examines the impact of locally produced generic drugs on pharmaceutical expenditures within Algeria's social security system, through a case study of CNAS Tlemcen. Using a descriptive-analytical method combined with a quantitative approach supported by comparative analysis, expenditure data (2019–2025) and a questionnaire survey of 93 CNAS employees processed via SPSS IBM 27 were analyzed to test two hypotheses: that locally produced generics contribute to controlling reimbursement costs, and that their adoption is shaped by factors including the reference pricing system. Results confirm both hypotheses, showing that while pharmaceutical expenditures continue to rise overall, generic drugs and reference pricing significantly moderate this growth. The study concludes that financial sustainability requires combining local production with strong pricing and reimbursement policies.
