Abstract

The pension system is a means of social security and protection. The retirement system, with its social purpose and in the interests of social justice, provides an alternative income to retirees in this research. Addressing a problem of the Algerian pension system, we posed the following problem: "What's the impact of the current economic crisis on the purchasing power and the standard of living of retirees?" At the heart of our research is the understanding of how the pension systems in the world and Algeria works, and the impact of economic crises on it. In order to examine the impact of the economic crisis on the purchasing power and standard of living of retirees and as assessment indicators of the pension system, especially with regard to the position of macroeconomic variables, from inflation, the consumer price index and exchange rate evolution, and their impact against annual pension valuation increases. The descriptive analytical approach was used in the theoretical part. For the applied part, the descriptive statistics analysis was used, in addition to the direct interview tool performed with a sample of retired professors from all stages. The results of the research can be presented as follows: The purchasing power of pensioners' pension is affected in the short term by fluctuations in consumer prices, as well as at their living level. This is a result of the depreciation of the Algerian dinar and the major decline in oil prices
